Through these main constrainst design a product that also adheres to two ecological design approaches that were were presented. Focusing on ease of manufacturing, brand identity and enviormentally friendly.
solution
Designing for Patagonia and the Pacific Downy woodpeckers, the down house was created! Created from re-purposed wood log rounds that were locally sourced in Worthngton OH, inner cutaways from a upcycled patagonia jacket as well as re cycled paracord the product comes to life with a very simple construction. Designed to be sold as a DIY kit.
The ecological approaches that The Down House targeted were Behavioral change and Dematerialization. The behavioral change that was provided is enabling woodpeckers to live In a closer proximity to our residential areas. This provided a safe place to inhabit while also helping preventing woodpeckers from burrowing into your house. This also will cut down on them constantly pecking which can lead to concussion and an early death.
Dematerialization coincides with Patagonia and their processes of renewable resources, all wood was re-used from a cut down Oak tree. The main body fabric was Up-cycled from a a Patagonia jacket and the paracord was recycled from prior projects .
All of this lead to a eco friendly and cohesive brand identification.
